(Oct. 15, 2012) -- A man was shot last night (Sunday Oct. 14) at the SW corner of Pacific Coast Highway at Pacific Ave. (1st Council district), directly across the street from the location (NW corner, 6th Council district) where an applicant's request to locate a title loan business has sparked controversy [appeals by residents and the applicant are heading for the City Council in the coming weeks].
LBPD Public Information Officer Lisa Massacani says that at about 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 14, a man [adult] was approached by two male suspects, one of whom produced a handgun and shot the victim in the lower body. The victim was transported to a hospital with what appeared to be The shooting occurred barely eight hours after a shooting in NLB (west of LB Blvd., south of Market St., 8th Council district) left a man wounded. As previously reported by LBReport.com, the City Council voted on Sept. 4 for a FY13 budget that cuts LBPD funding and will result in the elimination of half of the police department's anti-gang unit. The intersection of PCH/Pacific, which community advocates have said they consider the gateway to the South Wrigley area, was the scene of fatal gunfire (SE corner) in April 2012, when a gunman allegedly opened fire on a man standing on the sidewalk, killing him...and an arriving LBPD officer was met by gunfire (that narrowly missed the officer).
