(April 29, 2004) -- After successfully helping unseat 4th district Council incumbent Dennis Carroll, the LB Police Officers Association has endorsed Rae Gabelich for the 8th District City Council seat now held by incumbent Rob Webb.
Ms. Gabelich, who founded the airport monitoring group LBHUSH2 and ran a grassroots campaign that stressed neighborhood and quality of life issues, brushed by two other candidates on April 13 and came within 300 votes of Webb. The two face a showdown runoff on June 8.
In a written release, the LB Police Officers Association cited Ms. Gabelich's "history of effective community organizing and keen grasp of the issues facing the 8th District and the City of Long Beach" as the reasons for supporting her candidacy.
In the release, LB POA President Steve James stated:
The Long Beach Police Officers Association interviewed both candidates and reviewed their records. We are certain that Rae Gabelich will work to enhance the safety of our city and neighborhoods while on the Long Beach City Council."
The fact of the matter is our city is facing challenges - and we believe that Rae Gabelich is the candidate best prepared to put our city and its neighborhoods back on the right track.
She will bring proven coalition-building skills and a fresh perspective to a troubled Council, and she will help put the city’s financial house in order.
The Long Beach POA enthusiastically endorses Rae Gabelich for the 8th District City Council seat.
