(April 23, 2007) -- LB City Clerk Larry Herrera says that as of 10:00 a.m. April 23, 6,437 absentee ("vote by mail") ballots have been returned out of a total of 33,086 issued.
The May 1 special municipal election grew out of a 6th Council district election required to fill a vacant Council seat (former incumbent Laura Richardson was elected to the state Assembly)...which the City Council expanded into a citywide election to vote on six Council-proposed Charter Amendments (Props A-G) and a fee increase on firms that extract oil from LB with the resulting revenue allocated to police and fire purposes (Prop H).
The 6th district Council race is a "winner take all" multi-candidate contest. Props A-G can pass with a majority to pass. Prop H requires a 2/3 vote.
