(August 8, 2003) -- The LB City Attorney's office won defense verdict today, prevailing in a civil suit (Vasquez v. City of LB, et al) that alleged police excessive force and violation of civil rights in connection with a July 8, 2000 LBPD officer involved shooting.
The City Attorney's office says that at trial, the plaintiff admitted having a gun but said he didn't threaten an LBPD Detective with it during a foot chase. The LBPD Detective testified he shot the plaintiff only after the plaintiff drew the weapon and pointed it at the Detective and others in the area.
A jury heard the matter beginning on July 28 and returned a verdict in favor of the City of LB and LBPD Detective Kevin Nelson today.
