(August 16, 2003) -- NYC's blackout triggered more late LB Airport landings by late-departing JFK JetBlue flights ...but not as late.
According to JetBlue's online flight tracker, the carrier had three flights that landed late at LGB as August 15 was ending: 10:45 p.m., 11:45 p.m. and 12:03 a.m.
That's an improvement from earlier that same morning when two delayed JetBlue flights arrived over Los Altos on August 15 at roughly 1:16 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.
Under LB's Airport Noise Compatibility Ordinance, flights between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. are not permitted...but are automatically a violation if the operator can show circumstances beyond its control. Between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., large commercial flights are violations, period. Under a recent agreement with the City Prosecutor, City Hall (via the Airport) has indicated it plans to assess JetBlue a penalty of $3,000 per flight and issue an additional $300 fine for the post midnight August 15 flights (at 1:16 a.m. and 4:30 a.m.)
