(August 26, 2005) -- As LBReport.com reported today (Aug. 26), Randal Hernandez, formerly a senior aide to CA Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Chief of Staff to LB Mayor Beverly O'Neill, has announced that he is withdrawing from the 2006 race for LB Mayor.
LBReport.com sought comment from the Mayoral campaigns of Councilman Frank Colonna, retired Councilman Doug Drummond and Southern CA Edison president Bob Foster (who's filed paperwork preparatory to a Mayoral run).
As of 9:30 p.m., we'd received emailed responses from the Colonna and Drummond campaigns; a response from Mr. Foster's campaign will be posted as received.
Regarding Mr. Hernandez's withdrawl as a candidate from the Mayoral race:
Councilman Colonna: "I understand how difficult it is to make this kind of decision. Randal cares deeply about our city and I know that he's got a great political future ahead.
I wish him and his family well and look forward to working with him in the future."
Retired Councilman Doug Drummond: "Randall Hernandez has withdrwn as a candidate for mayor. I wish him well and hope he stays in touch with Long Beach. His work may take him away from politics for the moment, but he still has much to offer. Perhaps he will consider a City Council seat in the near future... a part-time position that would provide experience making him an even better candidate and help him move up."
