(August 19, 2016) -- A 17 year old boy playing PokémonGo (altered reality location-based game) while walking adjacent to the "Pike" area in downtown Long Beach was allegedly assaulted by an adult man who yelled at the boy and then allegedly hit him in the head with a metal pole.

The L.A. County District Attorney's office has filed an assault with a deadly weapon charge against Jason Louis Lingen, 59, who the DA says was previously convicted of assault with a deadly weapon in 2013.

In a release, the DA's office says that on the evening of August 17, the 17-year-old victim was playing PokémonGo while roaming in the area of the 70 block of Aquarium Way (north of Shoreline Dr., north of the Aquarium, south of Bay St.)

In July, LBREPORT.com carried the cautionary views of DTM Security [an LBREPORT.com advertiser] that PokémonGo and augmented reality games may create personal security threats. [LBREPORT.com coverage -- with VIDEO -- click here.]
