(February 27, 2003) -- Gas prices topped $2 a gallon for all grades at this ELB station at the corner of Spring St. and Bellflower Blvd.
Prices have been inching toward the $2/gallon mark at various LB area stations for weeks.
Today, U.S. oil price reached nearly $40 a barrel, a level not seen since October 1990 following Iraq's invasion of Kuwait.
The latest increase in oil prices is attributed largely to fear of supply disruptions from an increasingly likely war with Iraq.
On December 5, 2001, the lowest priced unleaded at the Bellflower/Spring station was 99.9 cents/gallon.
On December 30, 2001 -- after the U.S. military liberated Afghanistan from the Taliban -- the lowest priced unleaded about half a mile away at Woodruff Ave. and Los Coyotes Diagonal was 89.9 cents/gallon.
