Info preliminary, investigation continuing
(February 1, 2003) -- A rapid LBPD response on three fast breaking events on Friday night Jan. 31 -- a robbery and battery in the area of 12th and Pacific (1st Council district), a shooting in the area of 11th and Rose Ave. (2d Council district) and a stolen car pursued by police to an alley in the 1000 block of Pine Ave (1st Council district) -- resulted in officers taking a suspect into custody in connection with the stolen car, which police believed is related to the armed robery and may be related to the shooting (an investigation of the latter is continuing).
Information is preliminary as we post.
LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer told LBReport.com officers initially responded to a "shots fired" call in the 1000 block of Vina Ave. They found a victim shot in the leg about a block away near 11th/Rose with what was described as a non-life threatening wound.
No sooner had units arrived at that scene than other police units reported pursuing a stolen vehicle into an alley behind businesses in the 1000 block of Pine Ave.
Officers coordinated the fast breaking events and linked the stolen car to a robbery and battery that had occurred earlier that night in the 100 block of W. 12th St. (area 12th/Pacific). The victims in that crime were taken to a local hospital for treatment of superficial wounds.
Police are investigating if these events are related to the Vina Ave. shooting.
