(February 27, 2006) -- A citizen report of a suspicious person brought LBPD to the Bellflower/Conant neighborhood about a mile east of LB Airport where officers arrested a man allegedly responsible for an Airport security situation that delayed departing flights and some arriving passengers in the 7 a.m. hour today (Feb. 27).
LBReport.com was on scene as officers responded; the residence in the photo isn't involved; it's just part of the neighborhood where the suspect was found.
LBPD Public Information Officer Paul Gomez tells LBReport.com that at about 6:10 a.m., a male subject passed OK through security pre-screening but drew the attention of TSA officials due to his bagging clothing. When officials pulled him aside for further screening, the man asked to go to the restroom, and after being escorted there allegedly bolted, ran out a side door onto the Airport tarmac and fled into a set of buildings adjacent to the Airport.
Airport spokeswoman Sharon Diggs-Jackson says about six departing flights were delayed in departing and passengers on two arriving flights were delayed in deplaning...but things began normalizing after 7:30 a.m.
LBPD PIO Gomez says details on the suspect's identity, motives and charges aren't available as we post...with detectives conducting an ongoing investigation.
