(February 14, 2006, updated) -- A major power outage affected a big chunk of LB this morning, snarling traffic and basically turning things upside down at the height of a.m. rush hour and the start of the business day for customers between roughly Ocean Blvd. and Anaheim St. and Alamitos to Ximeno Aves. (roughly area; we've heard reports of the outage stretching a bit further).
Edison says the outage stemmed from a fire at its 264 Redondo Ave. substation and began at 7:48 a.m. and at its height affected about 30,000 customers.
By about 9:00 a.m., the company says it had restored service to about 6,000 customers...and all power was restored at 10:09 a.m.
