(Feb. 11, 2007) -- 5th district Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske has used her independent (non-City Hall) internet blog to provide a first-person description of what took place on Feb. 8 while she attended and spoke at a meeting of the El Dorado Park Estates Homeowners Association.

Lo and behold as I talked about public safety, a resident who had left earlier, came running back in to announce that someone’s car had been broken into. The description of the car fit a city employee who was also there to talk about the City’s new General Plan. I called the Eastside command station and a police officer arrived on the scene to investigate.

As I walked to my car, I noticed that the SUV in front of mine was also broken into. So once the officer finished taking a report on the first car, he proceeded to investigate the second.

Unbelievable. But in talking with residents I learned that a rash of car burglaries had happened over the past month near Newcomb Academy -- especially whenever there is a meeting there. (That is curious how anyone would know when meetings are held because there is no public schedule.)

Eastside Commander Laura Farinella and I will be meeting with residents of El Dorado Park Estates in the next week or so to discuss what can be done to stem these crimes.
