News Predawn Fire @ Calvary Chapel of NLB
(Feb. 20, 2009, updated w/ LBFD info) -- A fire struck the Calvary Chapel of NLB (South St @ Lime Ave.) in the predawn hours Friday (Feb. 20).
LBFD Public Information Officer Capt. Jackawa Jackson says the first units arrived on scene at 5:16 a.m. and found fire in the area of an annex on east side of the main sancturary...with smoke spreading in the main sanctuary.
A second alarm was called...and firefighters made an aggressive attack on the blaze.
The swift and aggressive response paid off...and by the time LBReport.com arrived on-scene at 5:30 a.m., firefighters had knocked down the flames and were taking measures to locate, contain and extinguish any hidden fires.
Much of the visible attention appeared focused on the annex building on the east side of the church.
LB firefighters scaled the roof and, wielding an axe, made openings for vertical ventilation that lets smoke and heat escape...and provides access to any hidden fires.
A ladder truck also deployed on the west side of the church on Lime Ave.
