Retired NLB Councilman Shultz Backs Using Redevelopment Bucks To Build New North Div. LBPD Facility

(January 26, 2003) -- Responding to a query from LBReport.com, retired two-term NLB Councilman Jerry Shultz has emailed us the following for publication:

"Under the circumstances now facing our city, I support using the Redev. Agency to help fund the North Police Facility. We simply have to get it built now. Public Safety is the number one priority and our police need this facility."

In January 2002, Councilman Shultz announced he would not wage a write-in campaign for a third term for the 9th district Council seat and endorsed veteran NLB activist Val Lerch. Mr. Lerch won the seat handily. In late 2002, Councilman Shultz relocated to ELB's 5th Council district.

As previously reported by LBReport.com, on January 23, 2003 NLB's Redevelopment Project Area Committee (North PAC) voted 16-0 with two abstentions to recommend that City Hall's appointed Redevelopment Agency Board use up to $12.5 million in NLB Redevelopment money (otherwise available to fund a number of blight reducing projects in NLB)to build the new police facility in Scherer Park in the 8th Council district and build a "replacement" park on 55th Way in the 9th district.
