(Dec. 6, 2004) -- Below are photos of the planet Mars photographed by the Mars Exploration Rover Spirit. They are followed by links to the highest resolution pictures ever taken of another planet.

The first photo is a 58kB version, slightly lightened by us, of a portion of the full photo. To view it in higher resolution (1 MB jpg file), click 1 MB portion of photo

The second photo is a 59 kB version, slightly lightened by us, of the full 9 MB jpg detailed photo. The 9 MB file is so large that we recommended it only for DSL users...and NASA-JPL says the large photo may be temporarily unavailable due to overload. To access it, click 9 MB image.
