Drive-By Shooting, 1200 Block E. 17th St. (Area Alamitos/Orange) Kills One 19-Yr Old, Wounds Another

(July 7, 2003) -- A 19 year old man was shot and killed, and a second injured, in a drive-by shooting in the 1200 block of East 17th St. (6th Council district) on July 6th at about 10:00 p.m.

LBPD says the victim, 19-year old Mark Anthony Hood II of LB, was in front of a residence with another 19 year-old man when a dark colored, mid-size vehicle travelling on 17th St. approached...and the car's occupants, believed to be male Hispanics, shot at both men.

Mr. Hood was struck in the torso and transported by LBFD to a local hospital where he died. The other man suffered a non life-threatening wound to a limb.

LBPD says the motive for the shooting is presently unknown...but investigators believe the shooting may be gang related.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call Homicide Detectives Mark McGuire or Chris Cardoza at (562) 570-7244.
