LB Cops Downtown Did This...And Did It Well
(July 17, 2003) -- We post below the kind of stories that don't always get media attention. What took place was important for the victims...and we consider the events newsworthy for taxpayers. We thank LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer for the info:
July 12, approx. 1 a.m.: Three people were robbed on the Blue Line. Suspect description: three male Blacks, fled on foot, last seen southbound on Pine Ave. from 10th St.
LBPD officer Nogueria observed three individuals matching the description at Pine and 6th. LBPD Officer Garcia was around the corner.
The three suspects were detained. The victims were brought to the area to conduct a "field show-up" (victims see the suspects to identify or exclude them).
All three suspects were taken into custody. One later admitted partially to the crime. The other two were already on probation for robbbery.
July 12, approx. 4:28 a.m.: Officer Anguiano (usually assigned to beat 8) was patroling beat 6 due to an increase in early morning auto thefts and auto burglaries in the area. He observed a male subject in a vehicle at Pine and 10th. The subject attempted to flee as Officer Anguiano turned around but was captured.
Apparently Officer Anguiano interrupted an Auto Burglary in progress by a parolee. The loss was recovered...and the parolee is in custody.
July 6, 5:55 p.m.: In the 600 block of Atlantic Ave., LBPD Officer V. Marshall was dispatched to a fast food restaurant regarding a Grand Theft. He arrived and determined that a male suspect had committed a Commercial Robbery. Officer Marshall made a timely crime broadcast and conducted a thorough investigation which revealed the exact denominations of the monetary loss and led to recovery of the security videocassette which captured the incident.
LBPD Officers R. LeBaron and R. Panek then conducted a search and located a subject that matched the suspect description. The subject had currency on him that matched the denominations of the loss. LBPD Officers S. Phillips, C. Austin, C. Ignacio and J. Sepulveda assisted by recovering items of evidence and handling the field show up duties. Each of the witnesses positively identified the subject as the robbery suspect.
[LBReport.com comment: Kudos to these LB cops for their solid work.]
