LB Area Congressmembers Rohrabacher & Millender-McDonald Vote To Block Financial Assistance to Saudi Arabia

(July 15, 2004) -- LB area Congressmembers Juanita Millender-McDonald (D, LB-Carson) and Dana Rohrabacher (R., HB-LB-PV) joined a majority of their House colleagues in voting for an amendment to a foreign aid bill that would strip financial assistance to Saudi Arabia. (Details below via Reuters)

Also voting to block U.S. taxpayer assistance to the Saudis were area Congressmembers Ed Royce (R., NE ELB & adjacent OC) and Linda Sanchez (D., South Gate. Lakewood, Whittier).

OC Congressman Chris Cox (R., Newport Beach) voted no.

The Bush administration had opposed the July 15 House action, which passed by a 217-191 margin. We post the complete House vote on a link below.

To become law, the Senate would have to pass a similar ban on foreign aid to Saudi Arabia (either directly or in a House-Senate agreed conference bill).
