Founded in 1935 by 16 residents (businessmen, sportsmen and civic leaders) seeking to bring Long Beach recognition by riding in major parades, LB's Mounted Police have become a national and worldwide symbol of the city.

LB's Mounted Police have ridden in every Tournament of Roses Parade since 1949...and served as Color Guard for the 2005 Tournament of Roses Parade.
LB's Mounted Police was part of the Inaugural Parades for President Dwight Eisenhower (1953) and Richard Nixon (1969).

In 1967, the troop rode throughout Latin America, visiting Rio de Janeiro and Mexico City among other major cities on a goodwill...using horses borrowed in each city.
In 1970, they rode in Canada's world famous Calgary Stampede and...put their horses and tack on aircraft to travel to Hawaii for the King Kamehameha Parade.

They made two trips to Cheyenne, Wyoming's Frontier Days (1985 and 1998) as well as trips to San Antonio, Texas (1984) and Santa Fe, New Mexico (1992).

The Mounted Police unit's members are men and women have qualified as Reserve Specialist Officers with the Long Beach Police Department and serve as good will ambassadors throughout the world.
