(July 2, 2007) -- As first reported on LBReport.com's front page (www.lbreport.com) shortly after daybreak today (July 2), at roughly 5:45 a.m. a LB Transit bus struck and killed a pedestrian -- who police say was walking in the crosswalk -- on Anaheim Street at Gardenia Ave.
LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Dina Zipalsi says the pedestrian, Rebecca Olano, 43, of LB was walking northward on Gardenia crossing Anaheim St. as the bus was heading southward on Gardenia.
Ms. Olano and the bus both had a green light, Sgt. Zipalski said, as the bus pulled out of the nearby LB Transit yard and was about to turn left (eastbound) on Anaheim St.
The bus, driven by Claude Ellis Powe, Jr., 58, of LB struck Ms. Olano...who did not survive.
The accident occurred at about daybreak and resulted in LBPD closing Anaheim St. in both directions from Cherry to Rose Aves. until roughly noon to conduct an investigation.
Sgt. Zipalski says there are no charges pending against the bus driver at the present time.
