Reuters: Coast Guard's Outgoing Port Security Chief Says Sailors' IDs & Containers Main Loopholes Making Ports & Ships Vulnerable To Terrorists
(June 9, 2005) -- The U.S. Coast Guard's outgoing port security chief has told Reuters that lax seafarer IDs and vulnerable containers are the two main security loopholes making ports and ships vulnerable to terrorists...and "authorities fear militants could steal or forge sailors' ID cards and use them to gain access to plant bombs, tamper with containers, or smuggle people and explosives to U.S. shores," Reuters says.
