Colonna Publicly Leaning Toward Mayoral Run
(June 15, 2005) -- LB Councilman Frank Colonna is publicly leaning toward a run for Mayor in 2006.
In an emailed statement sent independently of his Council office, the Third District Councilman says:
As we move closer to our upcoming municipal elections, our community faces many new challenges. These include hiring more police officers and a commitment to public safety, creating innovative ways to protect and clean our environment, investing in our streets and roads, and continuing to move our local economy forward.
I have devoted a significant amount of personal thought to what lies ahead for myself as a leader in our great city. As the residents of Long Beach know, my lifetime dedication and commitment to our city is real. I have worked as a partner with Mayor O’Neill over the last 8 years to transform Long Beach into a world class city. We have made great progress, but our work is not yet complete.
With this in mind and the continued support of my family, friends and neighbors, I have decided that ruling out a run for Mayor is no longer an option for me. I have received a tremendous amount of encouragement and support to run, and as result, I will be making a formal announcement about my intentions in the next few weeks.
Developing.
