(June 25, 2005) -- LBReport.com was present on June 24 at the Memorial Wall outside the L.A. County Sheriff's station on Clark Ave. in Lakewood as the first person arrived with flowers and paid his respects to fallen Deputy Jerry Ortiz.
Deputy Ortiz, a 15 year LASD veteran, was mortally wounded hours earlier in Hawaiian Gardens.
24 hours later on June 25, 2005, here is what the Memorial Wall looked like:
We transcribed the handwritten note attached as it appears:
"To officer Ortiz:
"these flowers are from my grandma's garden that also went to heaven. I pick them just for you and I hope now that you're in heven, if you see my grandma, please say hi. I'm sorry that you had to die because of the very bad man. I hope with your new wings you can fly high in heaven.
