(June 18, 2006) -- A sizable crowd, including Mayor-elect Bob Foster and First Lady Nancy Foster -- took part in the seventh annual celebration of monthly volunteer beach clean-ups created by Belmont Shore whirlwind Justin Rudd.
Each month, local volunteers show up at the foot of Granada Ave. for the task.
The June 17th event drew Cindy with her four-legged companion, Jack.
Volunteers are handed rubber gloves and plastic bags (provided by the city) and take on the repetitive stoop-bend-retrieve motions for half an hour. "That's why we keep it to thirty minutes," Mr. Rudd said.
Mayor-elect Foster donned a rubber-glove and went to work.

The beach is fun in the sun, but stooping and bending, over and over, is a job.
Mrs. Foster and Mr. Rudd joined in.
JetBlue provided snacks and staffers to assist.
The task done, Mayor-elect Foster and First Lady Nancy cut a cake marking the Beach Clean-ups' 7th anniversary.
And the task goes on...with volunteers taking part every month.
