(May 15, 2007) -- Assemblywoman Laura Richardson (D., Carson-LB) has announced the endosements of the following in her bid to succeed the late Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald (D., Carson-LB):

• Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D., L.A.)
• Former Assembly Speaker/former SF Mayor Willie Brown
• Former Assembly Speaker Herb Wesson
• L.A. County Supervisor Yvonne Braithwaite-Burke
• Assemblymember (and former Lt. Governor) Merv Dymally
• Assemblymembers Curren Price, Fiona Ma, Nichole Parra, Mike Davis, Wilmer Amina Carter, Sandre Swanson, Charles Calderon
• State Senator Ed Vincent
• CA California Legislative Black Caucus

A release from the Richardson for Congress campaign quotes Congresswoman Maxine waters as saying, "I am proud to endorse Assemblywoman Laura Richardson for Congress. Ms. Richardson is a dynamic young leader who has worked tirelessly on behalf of the citizens of the 37th Congressional District. She is a wonderful choice to carry on the legacy of the late Congresswoman and be a forceful voice against the failed policies of the Bush Administration."

Assemblywoman Richardson was elected to state office in November 2006 after representing central LB's sixth district since 2000.

Another former LB Councilwoman (1st dist. 1994-2000), State Senator Jenny Oropeza (D., southbay), is also seeking the vacant Congressional post. She was elected to the state Senate in Nov. 2006 after serving in the Carson-LB Assembly seat (2000-2006) to which Richardson was elected in 2006. Prior to her Assembly position, Senator Oropeza represented LB's 1st Council district from 1994-2000 and also served on the LB Unified School District governing board.

Congresswoman Millender-McDonald's daughter, Valerie McDonald, is also seeking to succeed her late mother in Congress.

So is Signal Hill Councilman Ed Wilson plus seven other Dems, five Repubs, 1 Libertarian, 1 Green and 1 Independent.
