Murder is roughly three blocks west of LB City Hall, borders 1st & 2d Council districts
(November 5, 2001) -- A Sunday night murder roughly three blocks west of LB City Hall has taken the life of a 59 year old LB business owner.
LBPD took two suspects into custody within hours.
LBPD says 59 year old Henry Chow, a LB resident, was standing behind the counter of his neighborhood market at 605 W. Broadway in the 1st Council district (the 2d district is the other side of the street) when 22 year old Ruben Emery of LB allegedly entered the store at roughly 9:50 p.m. on Nov. 4. Police allege Emery demanded money, then shot Mr. Chow multiple times before giving him a chance to respond.
Police further allege 19 year old Daniel Alvarez of LB acted as a lookout. Police say both suspects fled the scene on foot.
Mr. Chow was transported to St. Mary Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Citing quick actions and diligent work by its gang enforcement detectives, LBPD says both suspects were taken into custody early this morning in a residence roughly four blocks from the crime scene. Police say a handgun, believed to have been used in the shooting, was located and placed into evidence.
The suspects were booked for murder and are being held at LB City jail on $1 million bail.
