(October 10, 2004) -- The LB International City Bank Marathon's web site says 1,655 runners (1,071 men and 584 women) finished the grueling 26.2 mile race.
The fastest among them were James Maynard of Norwalk (2:30:36) and Amy Skieresz-Wilson of Tucson, AZ (2:42:47).
Nine teenage boys (15 and younger) completed the full marathon run (fastest: 4:00:26). No teenage girls finished in that age group...but eleven teen age women aged 16-19 completed the race (best time: 3:52:26).
Three men aged 75-79 finished (best time: 4:38:12). Four women aged 65-69 completed the race (best time: 5:26:05).
Five people completed the hand-cycle race...and the winner was Mark Tracy of San Diego (1:53:16).
Six wheelchair competitors finished, with Martin Vogel of Tujunga the swiftest (1:51:11).
4,132 Half-Marathoners crossed the finish line...with Chokri Ben Hedi of Albuquerque NM leading all men at 1:07:50...and Laura Knight of Costa Mesa CA completing the 13.1 mile course in 1:24:02.
803 people finished the 5k race with Adolfo Butista of L.A. (17:05) and Sandra Prado of L.A. (18:20) the fastest man and woman in that category.
The web site listed 10 top men and women finishers in the Half-Marathon Race Walking category with Jack Cassidy of San Diego (2:20:07) and Liz Salvato of San Diego (2:18:32) the respective leaders.
