Woman Is Shot In Washington Middle School Neighborhood (1st Dist.); She's Fifth LB Shooting Victim -- Third Woman Shot -- Within Thirty Hours

(Oct. 1, 2016, 10:25 a.m.) -- Roughly thirty hours after Long Beach had three shootings with four victims within five hours -- including two women shot/wounded in the 600 block of Cerritos Ave. (2nd Council district) on Sept. 29 -- gunfire rocked the Wahington Middle School neighborhood (1st Council district) as a woman was shot/wounded in a possible "drive-by shooting" earlier today (Sat. Oct. 1.)
LBPD Watch Commander Lt. John Kenaley tells LBREPORT.com that shortly before 2:00 a.m., LBPD responded to a shots-fired call in the 1500 block of Cedar Ave. and found a woman (adult) had been hit. Her wounds are described as non-life-threatening; the shots may have come from a passing vehicle (currently unclear); as of midmorning Oct. 1, no suspects are publicly identified; no immediate word on whether the shooting is gang related.
As previously reported by LBREPORT.com, four people were shot in three crime scenes within five hours within a roughly quarter square mile area on Sept. 29: 1000 block of E. 10th St. (6th Council district), 600 block Cerritos Ave. (2nd Council district) and 700 block of E. 8th St. (1st Council district).
