(Dec. 27, 2016, 10:15 p.m.) -- As flashed on LBREPORT.com's front page on the day after Christmas, gunfire flew at midafternoon in downtown LB's "East Village" as a possible drive-by shooting left two unoccupied cars damaged with no victims found...and a few hours later LBPD officers spotted a suspect vehicle -- with a man (adult) inside somehow wounded by gunfire -- halfway across town on Anaheim St. in LB's Zaferia district, where officers conducted a search for the vehicle's driver without success.
LBPD Watch Commander Lt. Kevin Coy provided us with updated information shortly before 10 p.m. following initial information from LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Brad Johnson, with the caveat that all the information below remains preliminary with the incident under investigation as possibly gang related.

LBPD says that on Dec. 26 at about 3:50 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 700 block of Elm Ave. regarding a possible drive-by shooting; they found two unoccupied vehicles had been hit by gunfire...but found no victims.
Officers then spotted the suspect vehicle in the 2400 block of E. Anaheim St. (at roughly Junipero Ave.) and found two persons inside, one with a gunshot wound; LBFD transported the shooting victim to a hospital (condition stable) and officers searched the area for the vehicle's driver but didn't find him.
It's not immediately clear exactly how the wounded man in the suspect vehicle was shot. LBPD is treating the incident as possibly gang related.
