Indeed, heaven forbid if efficiency experts were ever brought in to examine these two bloated entities because they would discover countless millions of dollars wasted and countless jobs unneeded and they also would discover they are nothing more than doormats for whatever their much-admired, even feared LA County brethren designates.

And so it was about as shocking to me as the sun setting in the west that the LB health agency overseen by the illustrious Smith College-Duke University educated Kelly Colopy and her top enforcer, City Health Officer Dr. Anissa Davis, have decided to bring back some of the stringent mask-wearing policies that were in place last year during the height of The Pandemic, just like those brilliant minds at the LA County health department had recently done in response to the upstick caused by the Delta variant of Covid-19.

But, at least so far, the 50,000, or so devotees who show up at Dodger Stadium for Dodger games aren't required to display proof of being vaccinated, which, alas, apparently won't be the case in Long Beach where those at outdoor events exceeding 1,000 starting on Sept. 21 must display either proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours.

Of course, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, which was canceled in 2020 and is set to return on Sept. 24-26, is the most prestigious, high-profile sporting event in this city, an annual multi-million dollar boon to restaurants and businesses.

So, why would the Ms. Colopy-Doc Davis braintrust decide for perhaps the first time ever to go even a step further than their LA County shot callers and actually force the multitudes entering the Grand Prix premises to display Covid-19 medical data while such a tack isn't even done at Dodger Stadium.

And, of course, a mere 25 miles away at Anaheim Stadium, where the Shohei Ohtani Angels perform in Orange County in front of thousands, the baseball devotees aren't even required to cover their faces as though they were auditioning for a Zorro or Lone Ranger movie or display proof of vaccination when they go through the turnstiles.

But in Long Beach, its health department, despised by so many who have to deal with its overzealous enforcers who are exceeded on the hate list in this town only by the incredibly repugnant, arrogantly nitpicking human beings who disburse construction permits at their own agonizing leisure, knows what's best for all of us as was the case last winter starting on Thanksgiving when it shut down restaurants and other businesses through the Holiday Season for no discernible reason.

Many never came back, but so what?

I sleep soundly at night knowing such enlightening, visionary figures as Kelly Colopy and Dr. Anissa Davis are intrusively protecting my health with their restrictive policies that I actually think are nonsense, as they routinely impact my sacred civil rights and enrage so many other Long Beach residents.
